[There's no riskier move for a selkie than losing track of your seal skin. Louie had it drilled into his head before he could even speak; it's the one topic where his family sets recklessness aside and plays it safe. If you lose your seal skin, you're stuck as a human and cannot return to the ocean. And what's worse, if someone else finds your seal skin, you won't be able to take it back - it can only be given to you. It's a massive risk to any selkies freedom.
Louie left his out on the shore today.
It was a deliberate choice. He's come to the coastal village of Portorosso on a mission: To talk to locals and get information on the latest mysterious, long-lost treasure his family was seeking out. It's what they do, and they're good at it-- well, as a whole. Louie doesn't think he's much help in treasure-hunting adventures. Treasure is great and all, but finding it is always tiring and sometimes dangerous. The only thing Louie has to offer in those areas is advice: It's not worth doing it yourself.
Of course, the rest of his family doesn't agree. They're all elsewhere, though, with their own jobs to do for a few weeks-- Not too far away, but far enough that Louie figured he could get a few extra days of relaxation in before his absence seemed odd. And could say he was just slacking off if he'd had no choice in the matter? Thus, leaving his seal skin out in the open.
It had seemed like a great idea at first, but doubts crept in throughout the day, and by afternoon Louie was rushing back to the beach where he'd left it, hoping it wasn't too late-- But when he got there, the beach was not the quiet spot it had been that morning. Young children were everywhere, playing on the sand and splashing through the water, and in all the activity Louie couldn't even pinpoint the spot where he'd left the seal skin.
This isn't good. Ultimately, Louie is more annoyed than full-on panicked, though. He's sure his family will come save him if the skin has been found, it will just be a matter of when. But that still isn't the best outcome, so he sees if maybe he's still in the clear. He does his best not to draw attention to himself among the smaller kids as he searches the beach.]
[ It's a bustling summer day, like most days are in the small town of Portorosso. Alberto got sucked into it immediately, himself, when he'd first moved here a month ago. It took time (and, uh, many near-death experiences) until he'd found his groove living amongst the humans. He'd recently taken up a side job as a lifeguard (in training, of course) for the remainder of his first summer in Portorosso.
Instead of patrolling the beach, though, he's perched on top of the watch tower, eyes scanning the scene. He sees Louie lacing in and out of the crowds of local kids, distinctly noticing he's not a local kid. Alberto has at least seen pretty much every single person in Portorosso, even if he's not met everyone personally... Everyone in town all know who he is, though, that's for sure. Alberto lets his eyes follow this "out-of-towner," as he'd once been called himself — but speak of the devil, looks like Ercole Visconti got to him first. Guido and Ciccio are nowhere to be found, of course — they hadn't hung out with Ercole since he lost the race, and frankly, Alberto finds them both a lot more likable ever since. Ercole... Eh. He's still much the same. Just even more insecure than before, without a crown to wear. The older teen strides up to Louie confidently, standing contropposto with his hand on his hip, looking down on the newcomer as Louie pokes around in the sand, searching for... who knows what. ]
And just what are you doing, eh? If you're looking for treasure, forget it. This beach is locals only.
[ Alberto keeps watching the pair from afar, already sensing he's prooobably gonna have to step in sooner than later. Ercole's out there, still being Ercole, no matter what... Mamma mia... ]
