[There's no riskier move for a selkie than losing track of your seal skin. Louie had it drilled into his head before he could even speak; it's the one topic where his family sets recklessness aside and plays it safe. If you lose your seal skin, you're stuck as a human and cannot return to the ocean. And what's worse, if someone else finds your seal skin, you won't be able to take it back - it can only be given to you. It's a massive risk to any selkies freedom.

Louie left his out on the shore today.

It was a deliberate choice. He's come to the coastal village of Portorosso on a mission: To talk to locals and get information on the latest mysterious, long-lost treasure his family was seeking out. It's what they do, and they're good at it-- well, as a whole. Louie doesn't think he's much help in treasure-hunting adventures. Treasure is great and all, but finding it is always tiring and sometimes dangerous. The only thing Louie has to offer in those areas is advice: It's not worth doing it yourself.

Of course, the rest of his family doesn't agree. They're all elsewhere, though, with their own jobs to do for a few weeks-- Not too far away, but far enough that Louie figured he could get a few extra days of relaxation in before his absence seemed odd. And could say he was just slacking off if he'd had no choice in the matter? Thus, leaving his seal skin out in the open.

It had seemed like a great idea at first, but doubts crept in throughout the day, and by afternoon Louie was rushing back to the beach where he'd left it, hoping it wasn't too late-- But when he got there, the beach was not the quiet spot it had been that morning. Young children were everywhere, playing on the sand and splashing through the water, and in all the activity Louie couldn't even pinpoint the spot where he'd left the seal skin.

This isn't good. Ultimately, Louie is more annoyed than full-on panicked, though. He's sure his family will come save him if the skin has been found, it will just be a matter of when. But that still isn't the best outcome, so he sees if maybe he's still in the clear. He does his best not to draw attention to himself among the smaller kids as he searches the beach.]
