[After adding some pepper, parmesan and lemon juice, Luca decides that's good enough for the pesto sauce and starts boiling some water, adding plenty of salt. He's about to tell Alberto which guess was correct when...he laughs.]
Trofie? Alberto, we don't even have trofie.
[He says this as he goes to get the trenette, making it very clear what he's making if Alberto notices what he just grabbed.]
[ He absolutely notices which noodles Luca's grabbed, but he averts his gaze back to the ceiling innocently, still grinning ear-to-ear now that he's figured it out. He'd rather play dumb. ]
Beh, guess I'll just— be surprised~ Hehe...
[ He lies on the table a second longer, letting his giddiness sink in, ruminating just a moment more on how perfect this is. Even if it's awful, even if it's inedible, even if Luca starts a fire, it's still perfect. Then, abruptly, he bolts upright and bounces off the table back on his feet. He'll help out after all, as a convenient segue. ]
I'm gonna make the drinks, then!
[ And by "make drinks" he means he's going to take the pitcher of water from the fridge and... put it on the table. And grab glasses. But as he goes for them in the cabinet, he deliberately, exaggeratedly, averts his eyes from what Luca's working on beside him, half-blindly reaching for the cups to avoid spoiling the "surprise" he's already figured out. Still smiling uncontrollably. Kid's over the top. Nothing we didn't already know... ]
[Luca notices the pointed way Alberto's avoiding even looking at what he's doing, and he grins. Even though he's sure it's obvious at this point, even though Alberto most certainly knows he's already guessed correctly, Luca decides he'll let Alberto have his little 'surprise'. Luca then adds the potatoes, green beans and trenette to the boiling water.]
Shouldn't be too much longer!
[Even though Luca's unsure of how much longer it should be, really.]
[ Alberto does — buuut if Luca happens to let it stay on too long, Alberto'll gently remind him after the ten minutes or so. He leans against the window sill now, unable to sit still ever, props his foot up against the wall and crosses his arms over his chest. But that smile stays stuck on his face. ]
Man, if Massimo and Giulia could see us now, eh? Haha!
[ There's almost a hint of surprise, even defensiveness, in Alberto's tone and the raise of his eyebrows. ]
You watch me cook every day — and you're the smartest person I know, you notice everything. You're gonna nail it~
[ And he's not just gassing him up. He's very sincere, and from his stance to his smile to the way he watches Luca at work, everything about his body language says so. ]
Heh, that's why you and me are such a good team — we're both always learning, even when we're not actually teaching!
[ He flashes him a wide, fond smile. And, really, that is true. It's always been such a compelling part of their dynamic together, this give and take, the way their different senses of curiosity mix. Luca's always teaching Alberto things, more often than not things Alberto doesn't even realize he's learning! They may often be much more intangible skills, like humility and sacrifice and restraint, but at the end of the day, Alberto knows he can give Luca credit for so much of the positive changes he's made in his life in the past year and a half, ever since meeting him... Alberto gets the credit for making the changes, sure, but Luca gets all the credit for the inspiration. And he's fine with that. Happy with that. Wouldn't have it any other way, hiccups and mistakes and all. ...Even when Alberto bit him. Ahem. They fixed it very well. ]

[Still, it's his first time doing it so there's lots of stuff he might not fully understand until he gets more practice in.]
